House Rules

The World of Aereth is adjudicated by the 3.5/OGL ruleset.  The following house rules are used for ease of play and balancing.

Core Only

Though the initial foray into Aereth, the "Ratcatchers" campaign, was an experiment in open and nearly unrestricted access to official Wizards of the Coast supplements, future campaigns set in Aereth will use the 3.5/OGL ruleset and be limited to Core (PH, DMG, MM) access only.  I feel an intentionally old-school, Core-only game will better emulate the design intentions of the Goodman Games' Dungeon Crawl Classics, as the  DCC modules are balanced for Core rules.  Special items, spells, feats, races, etc. that are unique to Goodman Games' modules will still be featured.

PC Hit Points

At the end of a session where enough XP are acquired to advance in level, players must roll their new Hit Die in front of the DM.  If the roll is less than one half the maximum total (+1 at odd character levels), the PC receives the amount indicated on the table for Gaining Fixed Hit Points, DMG 198).  All other class benefits are gained normally.

Turn Undead

This ability works normally, except that instead of fleeing the undead simply cower in place.

Wraithstrike

Wraithstrike (Spell Compendium pg. 243) is permanently banned from play, as are all spells, items etc. which seek to emulate its effects.
