D&D Bio:
I bought the old 2nd edition basic d&d red-box set back in the late 80's. My friend David Raynes was the only other person I knew at the time who wanted to play rpg's. We attempted to play many different games during our youth, many of them didn't get far past character creation. After a brief hiatus, we got into wargaming and had a great time. Soon after graduating from College, Dave informed me of a new version of D&D..something that we could actually play and understand. We both bought copies of 3.0 the day it came out. I ran a weekly campaign with him, Rob Ruff and a guy named Justin. We had a good time, but due to frequent player no-shows I was forced to end that game.
Dave then tried to run a Forgotten Realms campaign with some of his co-workers and new web-recruits. The game was plagued with rescheduling problems and eventually fizzled out. The good thing was that I met Peter Secklar, Justin Koza and Joe Sullivan.
Peter then ran a campaign that I jumped into mid-way through, it was pretty cool and we did some cutting edge stuff like making out own terrain and photgraphing out combat sessions. It was all posted on the web under the name "The Plot Hooks".. which we officially dubbed our gaming group.
We met Randy Gregory, and we gamed at his house for that game. Peter then ran a short lived homebrew game, where my character and randy's character were tempted into becoming vampire spawn. Justin Koza was playing a holy-type character and could not deal with the interparty conflict potential. The game self-destructed shortly after his character was captured by the vampire and tortured. Peter then started a short-lived Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil campaign. I was by this point heavily invested in prop and costume making and spent a ridiculous amount of time making them. This game broke down due to scheduling conflicts as well. We then played a 2-session Star wars's campaign that Peter ran. I also spent a lot of time making props and costume elements for my character..alas.
After this crapped out.. Randy called emailed us and said he was starting up his own d&d game. We all decided to give it a shot and after some heavy-handed DMing on his part, and less than tactful inter-personal verbal sparring, the group splinted yet again. I stayed on, and Dave did for a while as well. Eventually we recruited some new players and we pushed onward. It eventually became an evil campaign and many horrible in-game events transpired. All in all, it was a cool experience, since it lasted for a year, and we got to high levels of game play..and our characters saved the world.
I didn't play D&D for a few years after that, and I emailed Peter out of the blue and was able to get in on a game that Justin Koza was running. Joe was there, and I met John and Jason, two new guys. It was a bit rough at first, and I was worried it would crap out when Peter decided to leave and start his own game. I decided to stay on, and play in both campaigns. Justin's game turned around and I was able to achieve cool character goals and save the world as a PC yet again.. good times. In Peter's game I decided to explore the evil-character idea again. Unfortunately he was outed two the other characters rather quickly, and after a predictable decapitation by yet another RedCap I was tempted into becoming a Necropolitan.. an undead character. An evil undead cleric is powerful indeed, and it quickly became apparent that I would not be able to fully explore my character.. Vincent DeFabro as a PC. I turned him over to Peter and he quickly became the main villain of the game. I met Nick, Saul, and John Leary at this game, and was able to recruit them into my campaign after Peter's game ended, after a satisfying conclusion.
I ran a alternating Star Wars campaign with my friend Jason running a Champions campaign. Both games were plagued with difficulties in using new rules systems, and eventually I killed my Star Wars campaignin favor of continuing the Champions campaign. The Champions game had a few problems, but it eventually became quite enjoyable, and I looked forward to playing my character "The Sentinel" every week.
I currently play in a bi-weekly game with Nick as DM, and I just started playing in a campaign with Justin Koza as the DM. I run a weekly D&D campaign on thursdays: http://frocktopia.pbwiki.com
