Merin JewelshineMerin Jewelshine (CG) God of the Gnomes (pr. Meh-rin) Domains: Cavern, Craft, Earth, Gnome, Good, Illusion, Knowledge, Luck, Spell, Trickery, Wealth Merin Jewelshine ascended to godhood during the Vernal Rising along with many other deities. In mortal life he was a celebrated trickster, and his uplifting only encourage the spread of pranks, practical jokes and tricks among the gnomes. Merin was fond of directing his worshippers to strategically collapse certain caverns of the Underlands, thus denying Irindix’s drow and aberrations easy access to the surface. As such, a great rivalry developed between the two deities, and Irindix’s worshippers shed no tears when the gnomish race was afflicted with the Vanishing during the Convergence.
Merin was a great proponent of shared community values among the gnomes, and encouraged egalitarian distribution of wealth among them while also allowing for the possibility of great personal wealth and success, as long as it was not obtained by ruthless exploitation of one’s neighbors. Pranks and jokes among those of different class strata were particularly encouraged so that no one was allowed to get too arrogant or self-righteous. Jewelshine was a great patron of gnomish artificers, and many of them felt they owed their own inspiration for their mad inventions to dreams or visions that sent to them.
Since the ultimate fate of the gnomes remains unclear due to the phenomenon known as the Vanishing, Merin’s own fate also seems uncertain. He has not been heard from nor made an appearance in physical form since the end of the Convergence. Merin Jewelshine’s holy symbol is a shimmering multifaceted prismatic gemstone. Prior to the shifting, Merin’s purple-and-gold clad clerics could follow any non-evil alignment; however, as of 23CR, the point is tragically moot. His favored weapon is the gnome hooked hammer.
